Labrador Retrievers

ORIGIN


     In America on the first place of dogs breeds are Labrador Retrievers. The origin of these breed is Island of Newfoundland, originally he called St.John’s dog. Specimens were brought To England and crossed with setters and spaniels, so we get American Labrador and English Labrador which is heavier.

HISTORY


    In the past people kept these dog to help fisherman’s to hauling nets and retrieving fish wich escape from nets. Today Labradors doesn’t work that hard, and most of them is kept like part of family, but they are also very good for hunters, rescue dog, assistance to handicapped.

DESCRIPTION


      Labrador has short , coat which is easy to care and shed seasonaly, it is also water resistant. His coat comes in three color: back , yellow and chocolate, very rare silver or gray. Their head is broad, the nose is thick. Eye color can be brown or hazel depend on what color is the coat. Their ears are medium size which are always hanging down. Labradors body is slightly longer than tall. They have strong and compact feet. Their tail is thick at the base , and gradually tapering towards the tip.

TEMPERAMENT


     Labrador Retriever is great family dog, because he is friendly, loyal, patient, highly intelligent. They are friendly with people, other animals and expecially with childrens. Labrador love to play very much, if they have opportunity to swim they will never pass it up. They must be very well socialized, because some of them can be reserved with strangers. While they are puppies you must train the to heel on the leash, because they can run away. It is very important that your dog has current indentification tags or a microchip. If the owner of Labrador is not 100% leader and they doesn’t recive physical and mental exercise , they can become destructive. Because they are highly intelligent they are easy to train.

HEALTH


      This kind of dog is generally healthy, but like all other breed they can have health problems. They are prone to: Hip Dysplasia, Elbow Dysplasia, Osteochondrosis Dissecans, Cataracts, Progressive Retinal Atrophy, Epilepsy, Myophaty, Gastric Dilataion, Acute Moist Dermatitis, Cold Tail, Ear Infection. When you by your puppy ask to see health clearances for both puppy parent’s.

LIVING CONDITIONS


      Labradors are active dog , so it will be nice if you have a yard, but if you don’t have a yard , with lot of exercise he will be good in apartment too. He doesn’t love to be alone, if he is lonly and bored, he can do lot of destructive things in your home. Labrador is mouthly, he is the happiest when he  carry something in his mouth. So you must left him lot of available sturdy toys, if you don’t want him to chew something from your home.

CARE


      Labradors needs a lot of training, because they are energetic dogs. You must daily take the to long walk, to run alongside when you bicycle, or run with you while you jogging. While you training with your dog they must be heel on the leash, to show your dog who is the leader, and leader is the one who shows the way, human not dog.



They need bath every two month, if you want him smelling good. Also you must brush your dog daily. Labradors teeths need to be brush two or three times a week. If your dog doesn’t his nail wear down naturally, you must trim nails once or twice a month. Check his ears weekly and clean it out every times when your dog gets wet.


FEEDING


     They love very,very much to eat. You had to give them two meal. How much food will you give to your dog depend of his size, age, build and activity level. It also depend of quality of food which you by.
 But, just like people,they are individuals and don’t need all the same amount of food. Always wach him and when you see that he has more weight than he need take him exercise and less food, and you will have a healthy dog.
